Sheffield United are reportedly set to sign Brentford’s John Egan.

According to the Yorkshire Post, Sheffield United’s deal to sign Brentford defender John Egan is ‘almost done’ as he prepares to return to Bramall Lane.
The Blades have already snapped up goalkeeper Dean Henderson on loan from Manchester United this summer, but manager Chris Wilder is making more moves to strenghten his back line.
Wilder still has Jack O’Connell, Richard Stearman and Chris Basham at his disposal, but with Jake Wright only cover and Ben Heneghan loaned out, more competition is needed.
Now, the Yorkshire Post report that Sheffield United are poised to secure a deal for Brentford defender John Egan, with a move described as ‘almost done’.
Egan, 25, was on the books with Sunderland, and was loaned out to Bramall Lane in 2012, but played just one game before returning to the Stadium of Light.
After a permanent move to Gillingham in 2014 saw him star in League One, Egan joined Brentford in 2016, and captained the Bees last season following Harlee Dean’s departure last summer.

Egan has two caps for the Republic of Ireland and looks set to earn more in the future, provided that he can impress in his second spell with the Blades.
It’s unclear just how much Sheffield United are paying for Egan, but it looks set to be a considerable deal given his captaincy at Griffin Park, and he may well challenge Basham as the right-sided centre back in Wilder’s back three.
