Sheffield United and Norwich City are interested in signing £7 million-rated Cardiff midfielder Will Vaulks when the transfer window opens this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Of course the Canaries have a rather obvious advantage over the Blades right now – and not just because the former look set to take the latter’s place in the Premier League with the Championship title within grasp.
Sheffield United are a club built on sand at the moment.
Relegation is unavoidable and, just to add to the uncertainty, the Steel City side don’t even have a manager to plot an immediate return to the big time.
Sheffield United are interested in making Vaulks their first summer signing but, as pointed out by the Mail, much will depend on who takes Chris Wilder’s place in the Bramall Lane dugout.
After all, a Slavisa Jokanovic, Steve Cooper or Karl Robinson may not be keen on working with the versatile Wales international next season. A move for Vaulks, then, may be placed on the backburner until Sheffield United identify the right man to take over from Wilder.

Vaulks, who is valued at £7 million only a year after Cardiff paid £2 million to secure his services, also has admirers at Carrow Road.
Tenacious, technically gifted and blessed with a fearsome long throw, Vaulks also scored one of the goals of the season in December, finding the net from his own half against Brentford.
“I think he is brilliant,” Cardiff manager Mick McCarthy told Wales Online after the 27-year-old scored another stunning strike in the recent 4-0 thrashing of Derby County.
“I think he was a bit maligned, but he doesn’t half put a shift in.”
