Aston Villa reportedly face a battle with Sheffield United for Tom Bayliss.
According to The Sun, Aston Villa face a battle with Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion for Coventry City midfielder Tom Bayliss.
Bayliss, 20, has come up through the Coventry ranks, much like Premier League stars James Maddison and Callum Wilson, and Bayliss may yet follow them into the top flight.
The playmaker has now racked up more than 70 first-team appearances for the Sky Blues, notching nine goals and seven assists in the process.
Bayliss is now attracting major interest, and both Aston Villa and West Brom want to keep him local, but Sheffield United are now looking to take him over to South Yorkshire.
The Blades need reinforcements after a slow start to the summer transfer window, and whilst Bayliss has no Premier League experience, or even anything above League One, he’s an exciting talent.
Chris Wilder may well feel that Bayliss has the versatility he’s looking for, as he can play centrally, wide or as a number 10, which would be vital in the Sheffield United system.
Villa need some more midfield depth, and adding a young talent like Bayliss to compete with the likes of Jack Grealish, Conor Hourihane and John McGinn may be a smart move.
West Brom may believe that they can offer Bayliss an immediate path to first-team football in the Championship, but the lure of the Premier League may be too great for a League One player.
