Sheffield United and Bolton Wanderers appear destined to return to the Championship next season and are looking to make McGinn their first summer recruit.
Aberdeen’s Niall McGinn
League One promotion rivals Sheffield United and Bolton Wanderers have entered the race to sign Aberdeen winger Niall McGinn, reports the Daily Express.
McGinn, who has scored 13 goals and created 11 in all competitions this season, is out of contract this summer and said to be seeking a move to English football, prompting Aberdeen to admit defeat in keeping him.
Third tier side Oxford United have already offered a pre-contract to the Northern Irishman – along with Scottish outfit Herats – although Sheffield United and Bolton would surely have the upper hand on the U’s.
The Blades and Wanderers are 13 and six points clear of the play-off places, respectively, and look certain to return to the Championship next term.
Once on Celtic’s books, McGinn had a previous spell in English football with Brentford during the 2011-12 campaign, but is yet to make an appearance in England’s second tier.
Northern Ireland’s Niall McGinn
The 29-year-old has 50 caps for Northern Ireland, for whom he played and scored at Euro 2016.
