Tottenham Hotspur are set to send young striker Shayon Harrison out on loan to Southend, report The Mail.

Harrison has lost momentum in Tottenham’s academy, where he was once pushing for a first team spot.

He made his debut for Spurs in the EFL Cup loss to Liverpool in 2016 and has not featured since, with Kazaiah Sterling overtaking him in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

Injuries and a dip in form has contributed towards this, and a disappointing loan spell at Yeovil Town in the second half of last season was a big blow.

Now Harrison is set for another opportunity at Southend under the management of Chris Powell.

This season he has scored three goals in eight under-23 appearances.

The 20-year-old’s performances at Southend could be crucial for his career and he will want to follow Harry Kane’s example by proving himself in the lower leagues.

If he can start scoring goals regularly then he will play his way into the reckoning for Tottenham next season but more struggles could lead to a permanent exit.
