According to a report from The Sun, West Ham have been put off a move for Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue due to the Frenchman’s asking price.

Capoue has been a key man for the Hornets since his arrival from Tottenham in 2015, and enjoyed a particularly impressive season last year when he scored seven times in the Premier League.

However, he has been more of a peripheral figure under Marco Silva, starting in just five of his 10 top flight appearances so far this season – and now it appears that a move away could be on the cards.

West Ham have been interested in the 29-year-old, according to The Sun, as David Moyes looks to try and keep his squad on the right path after their recent surge up the table away from the bottom three.

However, the Irons may have to do some negotiating if they wish to bring Capoue in from Vicarage Road. The Sun reports that the Hornets are looking for £12 million for the midfielder – who is also on Torino’s radar – and that has put the Irons off a deal at the moment.

With Capoue perhaps edging towards the end of what may well be his best years, it is arguably not that great a surprise that West Ham are seemingly reluctant to pay an eight-figure amount for him this month. And if the Hammers continue their current form, the Irons fans may well not have any reason to look back in the future and think that the club made the wrong decision not meeting Capoue’s asking price.
