Tottenham staff were ‘blown away’ by Sergio Reguilon’s physical stats on Tuesday night as he helped his side beat Chelsea in the League Cup, according to report.

Football London reporter Alasdair Gold has claimed that after knocking their rivals out on penalties, Tottenham staff were blown away by the physical stats than their new 23-year-old left-back produced despite it being his debut.

During the early stages of the game, Reguilon was welcomed to his new surroundings when the over-exuberant Spaniard was outfoxed by his fellow countryman and the experienced Cesar Azpilicueta, who moved out of the way of his slide tackle, only to lay the ball on a plate for Timo Werner to net his first goal in English football.

But the former Real Madrid man perhaps showed why he was brought to Spurs by Jose Mourinho because his engine didn’t stop running as he went up and down the flank like his earlier mistake didn’t happen.

In the end, Reguilon made amends because he assisted Erik Lamela for the equaliser before Tottenham would go onto win the tie on penalties.

It’s a promising debut for a guy that was seemingly a low-key signing because most of the noise was around Gareth Bale returning to the club

Either way, Tottenham have a promising player on their hands and first-team regular Ben Davies now has a challenge that hasn’t been there ever since a certain Danny Rose was an England regular.
