Aston Villa’s owners have decided to ‘change tac’ this summer after sensing a real opportunity to catch and leapfrog the likes of Tottenham and West Ham, according to a report.

Birmingham Live have claimed that Villa were planning for a ‘quiet’ transfer window, but they now feel this is a great chance for them to leapfrog the likes of Spurs, West Ham, Arsenal, Everton and Leicester.

Whilst everyone is glued to Euro 2020, not many deals have concluded in the Premier League, other than Villa breaking their transfer record for Emi Buendia’s services from Norwich City.

And it seems as though Villa’s co-owners – Naseef Sawiris and Wes Edens – aren’t stopping there because on Wednesday Arsenal rejected a £25 million bid from the Midlands club for Emile Smith Rowe

Whilst other rumours have suggested that Ashley Young is close to returning to Villa Park and Southampton’s expert set-piece taker, James Ward-Prowse, is another name on Villa’s transfer wishlist.

Whilst Leicester and West Ham are on the rise, the same cannot be said for Spurs, Everton or Arsenal.

Two of those clubs are looking for new managers, whilst the Gunners ended the 2020/21 campaign without any European football for the first time in 25 years.

So, this is perhaps a wise move from those in the Villa boardroom to attack those above them with more ferocity.

Plenty more doors are open because of the inconsistency around them, and if they want to get back into Europe, then this is their best chance.

West Ham and Leicester have taken their opportunity and Villa will be hoping to do the same next season.
