According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are yet to make any loan signings this summer as Eddie Howe keeps an eye on Chelsea.

What’s the story?

Well, this is an interesting update.

The Telegraph believe Newcastle are ‘keeping their powder dry’ in the loan market as there is a widespread belief within football that several players will be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge in the final days of the window.

Additionally, the Magpies are said to have enquired about four Chelsea players in Conor Gallagher, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Armando Broja and Christian Pulisic.

Ultimately, Howe does not want to fill up his two domestic loan spots in case Chelsea agree to offload some of their deadwood on temporary deals this summer.

In our view, that is a wise move.

It would be heartbreaking for Newcastle and Howe if they decided to pursue other loan options, only to see Gallagher join Crystal Palace, for example – the Eagles are keen to have the England international back.

Newcastle playing with fire

While we agree that Chelsea’s fringe players are worth waiting for, Newcastle are playing with fire by putting all of their eggs into the basket that is signing deadwood on loan from the Blues.

The likes of Pulisic, Gallagher, Broja and Hudson-Odoi are by no means unpopular this summer.

West Ham and Crystal Palace are also interested in Hudson-Odoi, while Everton have expressed firm interest of their own in Broja and Gallagher – Frank Lampard believe his relationship with Chelsea could benefit him.

There is strong competition for the Chelsea quartet, so Newcastle must put the groundwork in now and try to strike a verbal agreement with one of the four, or else they risk missing out.

Keep an eye on the situation, as Chelsea should start to make decisions on their fringe players closer to the August 31st deadline.
