The Tottenham Hotspur-linked striker Willian Jose has returned to training after his attempts to leave Real Sociedad ended in frustration, according to AS.

The Spanish website claims Sevilla made a late attempt to ‘unblock his departure’, but could not reach an agreement.

Tottenham had been willing to offer up to 25 million (around £22.8m) for Jose, according to Calciomercato.

And El Desmarque claimed that La Real even expected Spurs to bid for him, following up on a failed January attempt.

Whether or not Tottenham ever did that remains to be seen.

But AS insists that of the proposals that actually arrived, none of them managed to satisfy all parties.

Tottenham spent more than a year in search of a Harry Kane back up.

But their hunt was ended last week when Jose’s fellow Brazilian, Carlos Vinicius, arrived from Benfica on a significantly cheaper loan deal, which could become permanent next summer.

Tottenham are still said to be chasing a central defender before the deadline for domestic deals a week on Friday, although their options are limited to those currently playing in the English Football League.
