Werder Bremen striker Niclas Fullkrug is considering a move away from Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen but has reservations about joining a club struggling at the bottom of the Premier League table.

That is according to Deich Stube, a German-based publication with an extensive knowledge of all things Werder. They are a source worth listening to when it comes to potential comings and goings at the Weser Stadion.

And, after Sky Germany reported that Fullkrug ‘wants to leave’ his current employers during the summer transfer window, Deich Stube have now done a bit of digging of their own.

Fullkrug, they argue, would ideally like to stay in the Bundesliga, even if he does opt to leave Werder Bremen. The late-blooming centre-forward is not keen on a move to Serie A outfit Torino. And while both Everton and West Ham have been linked, via BILD, Fullkrug also has serious reservations about joining a club lumbering along at the wrong end of the table.

The upcoming European Championships on German soil, of course, will play a big part in his decision. After finally forcing his way into the Germany squad at the age of 30, Fullkrug is wary of making a move that would jeopardise his chances of featuring under Hansi Flick at Euro 2024.

No one has scored more Bundesliga goals this term than Fullkrug’s 15; the one-time Nurnburg talisman benefitting from the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland.

“(I hope) he scores 20 or 25 goals,” Werder Bremen hero Tim Borowski tells Kicker. “Then he can think about what he wants; a better contract or another challenge.

“We’ll see about that. Maybe he even wants both.”

Werder Bremen, Deich Stube add, are under pressure to raise around £33 million in order to ease their debts. Selling Fullkrug, valued at around £17 million, would go a long way to solving that particular problem.
