According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham are very, very close to finalising the signing of Cristian Romero from Atalanta.
What’s the story?
Well, after Bryan Gil and Pierluigi Gollini were signed, Fabio Paratici looks close to making his third significant capture as Sporting Director.
The Evening Standard believe that Tottenham will wrap up the £47m deal on Friday, with Romero undergoing medical examinations in London today.
Furthermore, the 5-cap Argentina international is expected to sign a five-year contract in N17.
The centre-back department was undoubtedly a weak point for Spurs last season, and it has only become weaker after Toby Alderweireld’s exit.
So, it is encouraging to see the north Londoners address their issues with a significant signing in that area.
A pre-Arsenal treat

Interestingly, the Evening Standard believe Romero could be unveiled to supporters before the game against Arsenal on Sunday.
In our view, that would lift the spirits around N17.
The ongoing Harry Kane saga has made life at Tottenham pretty miserable for most fans, although Romero’s arrival should put smiles on faces.

Why? Well, he isn’t just any defender. The 23-year-old arrives with the title of Serie A Defender of the Season under his belt, following a fine campaign.
At 23, he also has a huge amount of time on his side to get even better.
Hopefully, the South American can shore up Tottenham’s troublesome backline.
