The Chronicle has reported that the ongoing ‘dialogue’ between Rafael Benitez and Newcastle United over a new contract could be completed by next week.

Newcastle fans are sweating over the future of their adored Spanish manager, whose existing deal expires on June 30.

According to The Chronicle, Magpies owner Mike Ashley isn’t concerned about the delay in coming to an agreement with Benitez.

Both parties want a resolution and, according to the same publication, talks could end either way by the end of this month. The Chronicle wrote: “There’s an acceptance from all sides that the dialogue that is continuing needs to be concluded by the end of the month at the latest.”

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid boss wants an assurance over transfers, as well as an overhaul of the club’s training ground.

The budget is more likely to convince Benitez to stay, especially amid suggestions that he wants to sign Manchester United’s Juan Mata.

The Sun claimed earlier this week that Newcastle want the former Chelsea maestro, who was managed by Benitez at Stamford Bridge once upon a time.
