Everton are looking to make signings this summer, but they have struggled to get deals over the line so far.
And the Echo now say that the bulk of Everton’s transfer business may not be done until the end of September.
That means that Everton may well start the season with their current squad, which could be a blow to Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
The Toffees’ need for renovation was clear last term, with their form after the Premier League restart worrying.
It would be hugely concerning if Everton were to go into the new campaign without making any new signings, but that does seem a possibility now.
Everton are at least chasing a central midfielder, and believe that it is even more important that they strengthen in that position than at centre-back.
Ancelotti would like new signings in both areas, but it is in midfield where he reportedly wants to bolster his options the most.
