According to a report in the Northern Echo, West Ham United have told Sunderland that money is no object to them in their chase for Jermain Defoe.

The Hammers are expected to make an improved offer in the near future, with Slaven Bilic putting Defoe at the top of his list of transfer targets.
West Ham are convinced that Defoe would add quality to their front line, and they are not put off by his advancing years.
The England international may now be 34, but West Ham are willing to spend big money to bring him to the London Stadium.
Moyes, though, is simply not interested in selling Defoe – as he is so vital to the Black Cats’ survival chances.
Defoe is sitting at the top of Sunderland’s goalscoring charts, and without him it would be hard to see the Wearsiders staying in the Premier League.
Ellis Short has reportedly told Moyes that he is under no pressure to sell, although West Ham are set to test Sunderland’s resolve in the coming weeks.
