West Bromwich Albion forward Jay Rodriguez is reportedly on Burnley’s radar this summer.

According to a report from the Express and Star, West Brom have informed Burnley that they would only be willing to consider selling Jay Rodriguez this summer if no club activates Salomon Rondon’s release clause during the coming months.

The Baggies’ relegation has created a lot of uncertainty and already led to the departure of centre-back Jonny Evans. And the Express and Star reports that Rondon could be the next to leave with the likes of Newcastle and West Ham considering triggering the release clause in his contract that has one year left to run.

Unfortunately for Burnley, the question marks surrounding Rondon has an impact on their business despite the fact that they are seemingly not involved in the race to sign him right now.

The Express and Star suggests that the Clarets want to bring Rodriguez back to Turf Moor this summer, but have been informed by West Brom that no bids will be considered until Rondon’s future becomes clearer.

The Express and Star adds that the Baggies already want more than £20 million for the Englishman, but will work even harder to keep him if Rondon leaves The Hawthorns this summer given their lack of alternative options. The fact that Rodriguez has three years left on his contract also boosts the Baggies’s hopes of keeping him around.

It is a smart move from West Brom to do all they can to make sure that they hold onto at least one of their two main strikers. Arguably, Rondon or Rodriguez have the class to take the Championship by storm next season and ensure that the Baggies’ stay in the second tier is a brief one.

However, the uncertainty over both men’s futures will hardly help the club as they prepare for a campaign where they will have one simple goal: secure promotion at the first time of asking.
