According to a report in the Daily Mail, Sunderland’s players have been left disappointed by Simon Grayson’s dismissal from the Stadium of Light.

Grayson was sacked in the tunnel, following Sunderland’s draw with Bolton Wanderers in midweek.

And the Black Cats players are reportedly frustrated that they were not told about Sunderland’s plans to sack Grayson.

The bulk of Sunderland’s squad had actually been behind Grayson, despite their struggles so far this season.

The Wearsiders players are said to have given their backing to Grayson, but they were not consulted by the board – when the former Preston North End man’s job came under threat.

Sunderland caretakers Billy McKinlay and Robbie Stockdale, who have been placed in temporary charge, now face the tough task of re-motivating a deflated Black Cats’ squad.

Sunderland are currently in 22nd place in the Championship table, after what has been a terrible opening to the campaign.
