Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez failed to agree new terms to stay on at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle and Benitez were speaking about extending his deal at St. James’ Park for some time, but failed to come to a compromise.
Benitez was keen to stay at Newcastle and had said to the club that he was frustrated over the length of time that negotiations were taking.
However, that ended up being Benitez’s last message to Newcastle, as he was let go yesterday.
It is said that Benitez was not even told that Newcastle would be releasing a statement when they did and he was informed of the announcement by a friend.
Benitez is said to be ‘angry, upset and disappointed’ with the way his departure has been handled by Newcastle.

Magpies fans are feeling the same sort of emotions too, with Mike Ashley taking on board a great deal of criticism since.
It is difficult to see who Newcastle will target to replace Benitez who would be an upgrade on the Spaniard.
Benitez had done a wonderful job at St. James’ Park, and the Magpies could well be in trouble without him next season.
