Newcastle United have reportedly informed West Ham United that they have no interest in selling Jonjo Shelvey.

According to a report from the Northern Echo, Newcastle have been in contact with West Ham to inform the Hammers that Jonjo Shelvey is not for sale this month.

The Northern Echo reports that the Irons are considering a move for Shelvey as Manuel Pellegrini seemingly looks to improve his options in the middle of the park at the London Stadium.

With the 26-year-old proving to be less influential this term, some may have perhaps suspected that Rafa Benitez may be open to selling the former Liverpool man, especially with the Northern Echo reporting that the Magpies are £10 million short of meeting Miguel Almiron’s asking price.

However, the report adds that Newcastle have informed West Ham that they will not be selling Shelvey this month. So that seemingly leaves the ball in the Irons’ court to decide whether to abandon their pursuit or try and make an offer that they believe the Magpies cannot refuse.

Shelvey has perhaps not made as much of an impact as Benitez may have liked this term, but it is little surprise that he has no intention to sell the midfielder this month.

The Magpies do not have the depth to let Shelvey go without bringing a replacement in. And based on how quiet their fans are expecting their month to be, it would appear that it may not be a guarantee that he would be able to get a replacement in anyway.
