According to MARCA, Marcel Brands is now working to get James Rodríguez to sign a new contract at Everton.

The 29-year-old’s current deal at Goodison Park expires in June 2022.

MARCA claim that the Toffees are keen to tie him down on fresh terms lasting until at least June 2023, with Everton desperate for him to stay.

The Spanish news outlet add that Carlo Ancelotti is obsessed with getting the 76-cap Colombia international to sign a new contract.

Following some incredible displays this season, that comes as no surprise to us.

Rodríguez has scored six goals in 25 appearances for Everton this season.

Additionally, the former Real Madrid maestro has also recorded nine assists – 15 goal involvements in 25 outings is excellent from the South American.

Interestingly, MARCA add that Seamus Coleman and Gylfi Sigurdsson are in advanced negotiations with the club to extend their contracts.

The likes of Bernard, Jonjoe Kenny, Cenk Tosun and Fabian Delph are also mentioned, as their contracts expire in June 2022 as well.

MARCA say that Everton have lots of work ahead of them, as they decide whether to keep these players, or find buyers for them.

Regardless of that, Everton are right to be making Rodríguez’s deal their No.1 priority.

The £90,000-a-week man has been superb since arriving in England, and is pivotal to Everton’s hopes of returning to the Champions League.
