Aston Villa are making serious moves during this transfer window, as Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens look to flex the financial muscle once more.

One name that has popped up on Villa’s transfer radar in recent weeks has been Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse.

Whilst Villa haven’t submitted a bid for the midfielder, it has been claimed by Hampshire Live that it would take an ‘almighty bid’ for Saints to let him leave amid the interest from B6.

Ward-Prowse, who has played every minute of Premier League football during the past two seasons, is described as Southampton’s ‘most important player’.

It is said that the free-kick specialist, who was unlucky to miss out on a place in England’s 26-man Euro 2020 squad, is ‘not for sale’.

From a financial perspective, those in the Villa Park boardroom have the money to try and lure Ward-Prowse towards their direction.

But it’s a case of how far are Villa willing to push for Ward-Prowse, and dare it be said, are they possibly willing to break their club record for his talents?

Emi Buendia is the man who holds that tag, at this moment in time, after he switched Carrow Road for Villa Park in a £33 million deal this month (BBC Sport).

Since Dean Smith has been Villa manager, Jack Grealish has signed a new contract twice, the club has earned promotion, progressed every season, spent over £300 million and broke their transfer record on three occasions.

One thing is for sure, those in the Midlands mean serious business.
