Yesterday, Manchester City announced the signing of Erling Haaland in a £51.2m deal, which should be good news for Tottenham.
Pep Guardiola is now highly unlikely to make another attempt to sign Harry Kane, but according to the Telegraph, Fabio Paratici believes the Citizens never wanted the striker that much anyway.
What’s the story?
Well, Paratici – who works as Director of Football at Tottenham – told Kane that Manchester City can’t have wanted to sign him that much.
The Italian is believed to have told the England international that Manchester City’s offer proved they weren’t serious about signing him.
Paratici’s theory has since come true, as the Citizens have now turned their attention to Haaland less than a year on from submitting a £100m bid for Kane (Sky Sports).
That is despite the fact that Tottenham’s No.10 has enjoyed yet another brilliant season, in which he’s scored 23 goals while also providing nine assists.
In fairness to those at the Etihad Stadium, they’ve hardly downgraded.
With 28 goals in 29 games this season, Haaland is on par with Kane as one of the best strikers in Europe, albeit with far less playmaking ability.
Manchester City deal leaves Harry Kane stuck at Tottenham
Unless Paris Saint-Germain or Newcastle submit a bid for Kane this summer, it seems he will now be stuck at Tottenham.
Few clubs in Europe can afford the 28-year-old, and with Daniel Levy being as stubborn as he is, we can’t see Kane leaving until his contract expires in June 2024.
Only the aforementioned duo of PSG and Newcastle have enough money to lure him away from north London.
However, the Parisians already have Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi, whereas Kane presumably won’t take a step down to join Newcastle.
With the rest of the Premier League presumably fearful of Haaland joining Manchester City, Tottenham fans will be delighted.
