Antonio Conte has a decision to make about Pape Matar Sarr at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Senegal international joined Tottenham last summer but was immediately sent back out on loan to Metz in Ligue 1.
Many Spurs supporters might’ve forgotten all about the teenage midfielder but if Fabio Paratici signed him, which he did, then the Italian’s faith has to be trusted, given what he’s done for the club this summer already.
Sarr is still only 19, however, and The Evening Standard report that Conte has to decide whether to keep the youngster in his senior squad next or loan him out.
According to the same report, the Italian manager might loan him to an English outfit for the duration of the 2022-23 campaign.
And to be honest, that’s probably the best course of action.
At 19, Sarr can’t possibly be the finished article yet – and definitely not after a season in France.
He needs to continue his development at a much higher level and a season-long loan in the Premier League could be excellent for his ongoing education – and it would allow the Lilywhites to monitor him relatively easily.
Conte will have a fully-fit Oliver Skipp available for the start of the season, along with new signing Yves Bissouma and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
And really, there’s no sense in keeping a player who isn’t going to play.
Sarr clearly has a bright future and it’s important for his sake that he’s playing every single week, which seems impossible at Tottenham right now.
