Wolverhampton Wanderers have a small squad and that could impact their ability to thrive in the Premier League and Europa League.

Nuno Espirito Santo wants a centre-back and a midfielder during the January transfer window with the Express and Star believing that the coach is keen to reinforce his Wolverhampton Wanderers squad.
Given that Nuno prefers quality over quantity, it was always going to be a gruelling season for Wolves with Europa League football stretching an already small squad to it’s limit.
The Black Country giants had to play six games to even qualify for the competition and it is no real surprise then that they looked worn-out in the early weeks of the campaign, even if things have picked up of late.
It is telling that an EFL Cup exit at the hands of rivals Aston Villa has been viewed by many as a ‘blessing in disguise’.
Though reports are suggesting that Nuno does see the need to bring in new faces to avoid another slump with additions in midfield and defence in his sights.

On Wednesday, the Mail claimed that Wolves had expressed an interest in Lille’s Brazilian centre-half Gabriel Magalhaes, who could replace the injured Willy Boly. Gabriel is very highly-rated and, in July, Serie A champions Juventus saw a £23 million bid rejected (RMC).
He is exactly the kind of young, hungry player Nuno likes to work with and, with reports backing up the coach’s desire for a new central defender, expect to hear more about Gabriel in the weeks to come.
Fortunately, chairman Jeff Shi has confirmed that funds are available.
