According to a report in the Chronicle, Newcastle United are set to hand Steve Bruce the same transfer budget that Rafael Benitez would have been given, if the Sheffield Wednesday boss does job.

Bruce appears to have become Newcastle’s first choice to take over from Benitez, in what looks a controversial appointment.

Most supporters around St. James’ Park feel that the Wednesday boss would be a huge downgrade on Benitez, but Bruce is said to be keen on the move.

Ashley will reportedly hand Bruce a considerable amount of money to spend at Newcastle if the experienced manager does join.

The Chronicle had claimed that Benitez would be given a £60 million budget, and Bruce is said to be set to be handed the same amount of funds if he does join Newcastle.

That would enable the current Wednesday boss to shape the squad how he felt fit, but there is a considerable amount of work to be done.

Newcastle have lost Ayoze Perez this summer and look desperately short of quality, meaning money will need to be spent if they are to have any chance of staying up.
