Arsenal did make an offer to land new Tottenham Hotspur signing Emerson Royal – and it included Hector Bellerin heading to Barcelona.
That’s according to a report from Marca, as they claim that Arsenal offered a deal worth €10million (£8.6million) plus Bellerin.
Barcelona rejected that offer, seemingly reluctant to swap a right back for a right back when they had two competing with Emerson in the first place.
Tottenham found that out too when they offered Serge Aurier in their first Emerson bid, with Barcelona only interested in straight cash.
Arsenal seemingly didn’t come back with a new bid, and that allowed Tottenham to strike a deal that could reach around €30million (£26million).
That’s quite a way from the £8.6million Arsenal were offering, and few would say that Bellerin is worth around £18million right now.
Arsenal did end up moving Bellerin out on deadline day, sending him on loan to Spanish side Real Betis having fallen out of Mikel Arteta’s plans.
The Gunners also managed to sign a right back of their own, securing Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna in a deal believed to be worth around £17million.
Arsenal seemingly didn’t want to go that extra £9million and really push for Emerson, and they must now see the Brazilian lining up for Tottenham instead.
