Josh Windass has been in excellent form since Graeme Murty took over at Scottish Premiership giants Rangers – alerting a number of Championship clubs.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Scottish Cup Quarter final match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Josh Windass is perhaps the player who has benefitted most from Pedro Caixinha’s sacking by Rangers in late October. In and out of the side under the Portuguese tactician, the 23-year-old has emerged as one of the club’s key men under Graeme Murty.

He’s even scored five goals in ten games from midfield in the last two months, showing the kind of net-busting form that encouraged Rangers to pluck him from Accrington Stanley back in 2016.

Though Windass’ fine performances north of the border have earned him plenty of admirers down south. The Daily Record (live transfer blog, 8.13am) reports that at least two Championship clubs are interested in the dynamic midfielder while runaway League One leaders Wigan Athletic have also been linked of late.

But the report says that Rangers would demand a fee of around £2 million before they would even consider listening to offers for their in-form number 11.

Even though £2 million would represent quite an impressive profit on a player Rangers landed for nothing more than a minimal compensation fee, it makes no sense for them to cash in now with Windass starting to make his mark at Ibrox.

There have been flashes of quality in the last year-and-a-half but it is only now that Windass is starting to produce on a regular basis – while also performing impressively in an unfamiliar left-wing position that he has made his own of late.

Windass is one of the first names on the team-sheet right now and if Rangers are to push on and improve on last season’s third place finish then they simply need to keep their best players at Ibrox.
