Leeds United may need to bid just £10.5 million to bring one of the Qatar World Cup’s breakout stars – Club Brugge winger Tajon Buchanan – to the Premier League this summer.
During Saturday’s thrilling Old Firm derby – Kyogo Furuhashi’s latest Man of the Match display ensuring Celtic have one hand and four fingers on the Premiership title – Canada international Alistair Johnston was outstanding on the right-hand side. A bundle of energy and intensity at both ends of the pitch.
It remains to be seen whether Buchanan can emulate Johnston’s impact in his new home. The former, like the latter, caught the eye as Canada impressed in Qatar; all style and skill, and nitrous-powered nutmegs.

The silky, self-confident Buchanan is reportedly on Leeds’ radar ahead of the summer window. Serie A giants Inter Milan, meanwhile, have scouted Buchanan on three separate occasions of late, sporting director Piero Ausilio holding exploratory talks with the 24-year-old’s representatives.
Inter’s financial problems are well documented. A rumoured £10.5 million price-tag, however, should still be within the Nerazzuri’s reach, particularly if Inter can raise funds via the sale of Denzel Dumfries (FC Inter News).
The report adds that Buchanan may also accept a salary in the region of £10,000 and £20,000-a-week.
Leeds United face Inter Milan battle for Tajon Buchanan
A versatile wide player capable of thriving on the right or the left, and on the wing or in defence, Buchanan has one goal and six assists for a Club Brugge side who recently sacked Scott Parker following a dismal run of form.
Leeds’ interest may raise concerns over the future of Rasmus Kristensen; the Dane who has found himself on the bench for much of 2023. Luke Ayling, meanwhile, will turn 32 in August and is no longer the same reliable force of old.
“As a child, I always dreamed of playing for one of the best teams in a top league. Hopefully, I will get the chance,” Buchanan explains.
“It’s nice to read (about) the rumours. Everyone knows that I came to Belgium as an intermediate step in my career. I would like to take that next step. But now, I focus first on the present.”
