According to The Mirror, Newcastle United’s potential takeover could be back on after Amanda Staveley re-opened talks with owner Mike Ashley.

The Magpies moved another step closer to safety on Saturday afternoon with an impressive 2-1 win away at Leicester City, meaning it’s now three wins in a row for Rafael Benitez’s men.

With Newcastle now sneaking into the top half of the Premier League table, Bentiez and co can start looking towards next season and begin planning for another top flight campaign, with new signings needed.

Benitez could now have a new boss to answer to, as The Mirror report that Amanda Staveley and the PCP Partners have re-opened talks with owner Mike Ashley about a takeover deal in the hope of finally purchasing the club.

Ashley put Newcastle up for sale back in October, and Staveley showed the strongest interest in buying the club, with a deal looking close for some time before Ashley pulled the plug in January.

With Newcastle now nearing Premier League safety, it’s believed that talks have started again in recent weeks, and Staveley is confident of securing a deal worth around £300million in the near future.

It’s added that the PCP Partners have already begun making plans to improve the club’s training ground, whilst their potential deal would impact Benitez immediately in two ways; with a brand new contract and with a huge transfer kitty to spend this summer.

That would be music to the ears of Newcastle fans who have been somewhat frustrated with Ashley for the last 11 years, and there should be real optimism that Benitez will now be backed to turn the club into a force.
