Southampton are stuck in the relegation zone after yet another St Mary’s defeat for Hasenhuttl’s Saints – at least the January transfer window’s looming large.

Southampton will give beleaguered boss Ralph Hasenhuttl money to spend in the January transfer window with three new players potentially on their way to St Mary’s, according to The Sun (11 November, page 48).
The Saints really needed a win on Saturday. But two weeks after that history-making 9-0 home defeat to Leicester, Hasenhuttl’s side were beaten again on home soil as a tidy Richarlison volley sealed a 2-1 win for fellow strugglers Everton on the south coast.
Southampton will back, rather than sack, the former RB Leipzig coach though and The Sun believes that the Austrian will be given funds to add some much needed quality to an ailing squad.
Three new players are expected to arrive, though the report is reluctant to name names just yet.
From an outside perspective, a new defender surely has to be top of the transfer wishlist. No team in the Premier League has conceded more than Southampton’s 29 goals so far with the likes of Maya Yoshida and Jannik Vestergaard looking like an accident waiting to happen.

The Saints have only found the net 11 times at the right end, too, with Danny Ings (five) responsible for almost half of those. Che Adams, the big-money summer signing, is yet to get off the mark.
Interestingly, The Sun (10 November, page 59) reports that former Everton and Leicester City talent-spotter Steve Walsh is scouting on behalf of Southampton and it remains to be seen whether he plans to bring one of his favourites to St Mary’s.
