Sunderland boss Jack Ross wants to improve his side’s back line this month in a bid to strengthen his squad.

Jack Baldwin and Tom Flanagan have generally been utilised as Sunderland’s first choice central defenders, while Ross has rotated his full-backs.
The Black Cats have generally kept a strong defensive record this season, but Ross feels that improvements could still be mad.
Sunderland have let in 23 goals in the league so far, which gives them the second best defensive record of any side in the third tier.

The identity of Sunderland’s incoming defensive addition is not yet known, but the Wearsiders are understood to be making good progress.
Ross has confirmed that any additions Sunderland make this month will be to strengthen their squad, with departures not expected at the Stadium of Light.
