Newcastle United want to sign Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend on loan with a view to a permanent transfer this summer.
According to a report in the Chronicle, Newcastle United are looking to wrap up a deal for Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend in the near future.
Townsend is believed to be on Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez’s wishlist this month, and the Tynesiders are looking to bring the winger in before the end of the month.
Newcastle are plotting making a loan bid for the England international, which could then be made permanent in the summer.
Newcastle would likely have the funds required to sign Townsend, should they be promoted back to the Premier League.
Townsend only left St. James’ Park last summer, after spending six months with the North East side.
The former Tottenham Hotspur man netted four goals in 13 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, but was not prepared to drop into the Championship with the Magpies.
Since moving to Palace, Townsend has struggled, and he has failed to hold down a first-team place.
Newcastle believe that the 25-year-old could still be a good addition though, and they are expected to step up their efforts to sign him in the coming days.
Townsend has made 25 appearances for Palace this term, but he has once scored on one occasion.
