Dwight Gayle is likely to stay at Newcastle United next season despite interest from clubs in Turkey, Russia and the money-spinning Middle East, as reported by The Chronicle.
If there’s one member of Steve Bruce’s squad who would probably have benefited from the club’s third relegation in 12 years, it’s Dwight Gayle.
This old-school, penalty-box poacher has a superb track record in the Championship after all, firing Newcastle to the second-tier title with 23 goals during that stellar 2016/17 season.
In the Premier League, it’s a different story.
In fact Gayle has started just four top-flight games this season, falling behind summer signing Callum Wilson and the less-than-prolific Joelinton in Bruce’s pecking order.
About a month ago, The Athletic reported Gayle was set to sign a new contract at St James’ Park. At the time, Newcastle looked dead-certs for relegation.

It’s interesting to note that, as the Tyneside giants pull clear of the drop zone following a fine run of form, the ‘Gayle trail’ has grown cold.
Did Newcastle only plan to keep the 31-year-old in case of a dreaded return to the Championship? Or could Gayle still have a part to play against the Liverpools, Chelseas and Manchester Citys of the world?
Either way, the Chronicle believes Gayle will still be a Newcastle player in 2020/21.
The former Crystal Palace man, a £10 million signing during the Rafa Benitez era, is expected to turn down offers from Russia, Turkey and the Middle East to fight for his place at one of England’s sleeping giants.
