Tottenham’s Josh Onomah is developing out on loan at Aston Villa.
According to the Birmingham Mail, midfielder Josh Onomah is expected to remain with Aston Villa, despite Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino hinting at a possible recall.
Onomah, 20, enjoyed a frustrating campaign last season having played just five Premier League games, and Spurs manager Pochettino finally decided to loan him out for this season.
The midfielder needed first-team football, and was subsequently sent out on loan to Aston Villa in August, penning a season-long deal with the Championship club.
So far, Onomah has notched three goals and one assist in 19 Championship appearances for Villa, largely impressing Villa fans with his displays – and his future has been brought into question in recent days.
Spurs boss Pochettino told The Guardian last week that Spurs have the option to bring Onomah back to North London in January, potentially reintegrating him into their first team setup.
However, the Birmingham Mail report that Onomah is still expected to see out the season with Villa, as was initially agreed four months ago.
Much will depend on how Erik Lamela continues to adjust to playing again after more than a year out of action through injury, with any setback potentially opening the door for Onomah’s return.
Yet with Son Heung-min impressing and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou receiving another chance to shine, it may well be best if Onomah is left to continue his development at Villa Park.
