Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has reportedly been frustrated by a lack of business at St. James’ Park.

According to a report in the Guardian, Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has been left unimpressed by the over-inflated prices in the transfer market to date.

Newcastle told Rafael Benitez that he would have plenty of funds to spend this summer, but the Magpies have endured a frustrating transfer window to date.

Newcastle have missed out on a number of key targets already, but Ashley is reportedly waiting to make his move.

The Magpies are hoping that prices will drop as teams become more desperate to offload their players in the latter part of the window.

Newcastle still have their eyes on bringing in a high-calibre striker to the club, with Benitez desperate for that addition in particular.

However, it could be that the Spaniard has to play a waiting game, as he looks to make additions to his strike force at St. James’ Park.

Ashley still wants to bring a striker to Tyneside, but feels better value may be available at the end of August.

Newcastle look set to go into the new campaign with Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic battling it out to lead the line.

Newcastle have made five signings so far this summer, with Javier Manquillo, Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune, Jacob Murphy and Mikel Merino all joining up.
