It has been reported that Liverpool now feel quite sorry for Naby Keita and how his time at the club is about to end.

The Athletic gave an insight into the Reds’ internal feelings, as it was recently announced by the club’s official website that the 28-year-old was set to leave Anfield.

With Naby Keita about to bid farewell to Liverpool, there is a feeling of sadness about his departure, in some senses.

Liverpool feel sorry for Naby Keita

The £52.75 million (Sky Sports) man joined Jurgen Klopp’s side as a player with a lot of expectations on his shoulders.

However, the dynamic box-to-box midfielder, who seemed perfect for the Merseyside-based club was virtually injured at all times, which stopped him in his tracks from setting the world alight.

As Naby Keita will Liverpool for pastures new at the end of the season, the club themselves feel upset about how things have gone with him.

“The first thing to say is that there is plenty of sympathy at Liverpool for the catalogue of injury setbacks that blighted Keita’s time on Merseyside.”

Keita would have been a starter under Jurgen Klopp if not for injuries

Unfortunately for Naby Keita, it is almost certain that if not for his persistent injury woes, he would have been a hit of a signing at Liverpool.

The Guinean international is exactly the kind of midfielder that Jurgen Klopp has seemingly favoured during his time at Anfield.

Blessed with an incredible engine and high technical ability, Keita is as much of a ballerina in possession as much as he is an out-and-out workhorse.

Perhaps the former Salzburg fan favourite is the profile of midfielder that Liverpool are in desperate need of now, as they miss Thiago’s controlling presence due to injuries and legs in the middle of the park.

It truly has been a classic case of ‘what could have been’ with Naby Keita in English football.
