Report shares Leicester’s Christian Fuchs decision as Aston Villa lurk

Aston Villa reportedly want Leicester City full-back Christian Fuchs this month.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (20/1; page 63), Dean Smith will have to look elsewhere as he tries to add a new left-back to his Aston Villa ranks with Leicester deciding to keep Christian Fuchs this month.

The left-hand side of the defence has been somewhat problematic for the Villans this term, and they had reportedly hoped to sign the Foxes full-back to address the issue.

Fuchs – who earns £50,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – is out of contract at the King Power Stadium in the summer and has only played one Premier League game this season. However, Leicester have made a decision on his immediate future that will not please the Championship side.

The Sun on Sunday (20/1; page 63) reports that Claude Puel wants to keep Fuchs for the rest of the season, seemingly denying Villa the chance to land the 32-year-old this month.

It seemingly was always a deal that was relying somewhat on Leicester’s good faith if it was ever going to get done this month. Apart from potentially freeing up some space on the wage bill, there is little benefit to loaning him out for the Foxes.

But with Fuchs one of the players who played a crucial role in their stunning Premier League title win, it did seem to not be out of the question for Leicester to sanction that kind of move.

But unfortunately for Villa, it appears that they will now have to consider other targets.
