According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool will receive £2million in compensation from FIFA after Joe Gomez’s injury.
As if Liverpool’s defensive issues weren’t bad enough with injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold, they’ve now been made worse.
Gomez has picked up a knee injury in training with England during this international break, and it now looks like he will miss the majority of the season.
With Matip often picking up knocks, Gomez was seen as a Liverpool defender to rely in on the face of these blows, but he will be out for many months now.
It’s now stated that FIFA have told The FA they will cover Gomez’s £80,000-a-week wages whilst he is out, meaning Liverpool will receive around £2million.

England internationals are part of the FIFA club protection programme, which means injuries sustained on international duty are protected with compensation.
It won’t exactly make Liverpool’s pain go away, but it is at least some form of remuneration for the Reds as they prepare to deal with losing their top two centre backs for the rest of the campaign.
