Sunderland reportedly won’t be re-signing Jack Colback from Newcastle United.
According to the Sunderland Echo, Sunderland boss Chris Coleman wants to bring in five new signings in January – but a deal for Newcastle’s Jack Colback is unlikely to be taken up.
The Black Cats finally ended their 364-day wait for a home win on Saturday afternoon, beating Fulham 1-0 at the Stadium of Light as Coleman’s reign begins to kick off.
With two wins in five games, Coleman has made a decent start to life at the Stadium of Light, but the former Wales boss will also be eyeing new signings.
The Sunderland Echo report that Coleman wants to make five new additions in January, but will be limited to the bargain basement unless the likes of Lamine Kone and Didier Ndong leave the club.
Deals for Liverpool duo Danny Ward and Ben Woodburn appear to be unlikely, whilst a move to bring midfielder Jack Colback to the club once again doesn’t seem to be on Coleman’s agenda.
It was reported by the Shields Gazette on Tuesday that Newcastle outcast Colback had been offered to Sunderland as the Magpies attempt to offload him in January, but Coleman is unlikely to take up the offer.
The 27-year-old left Sunderland back in 2014 when his contract expired, making the move to Tyneside to join his boyhood club, meaning a return to the Stadium of Light would be somewhat controversial.
With Sunderland seemingly not keen despite Colback’s desire to stay in the North East, Newcastle may have to hope that they can find other suitors for his services in January.
