According to The Athletic, Trent Alexander-Arnold is said to be devastated after being dropped from the England squad by Gareth Southgate.
The Athletic also state that Liverpool have been left feeling shocked and bemused at the 22-year-old’s exclusion from the Three Lions.
Liverpool were so confident of the right-back’s inclusion that they even allowed him time off this week, assuming he would be selected.
Now, Jürgen Klopp has a task on his hands to lift his No.66 and help him overcome this setback.
Of course, it’s good news in some ways for the Reds, after what happened to Joe Gomez in November.
The centre-back teamed up with England after playing in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City, but did not return as he left.
Gomez suffered a serious knee injury, and is still yet to even return to training.
In that respect, at least Alexander-Arnold will avoid the same fate, and be available to Klopp for Liverpool’s battle to secure a Champions League place.
Southgate argued that Reece James and Kieran Tripper have enjoyed “exceptional seasons” after they were both included.
However, the latter has only played four times since January 12th having been slapped with a 10-week ban for betting breaches, as the BBC covered.
In our eyes, that doesn’t sound very exceptional…
