Ethan Ampadu’s desire to fight for a first-team place at Stamford Bridge has seemingly had an effect on Norwich signing Tottenham’s Oliver Skipp instead, according to a report.

Football London have claimed that recently-relegated Norwich were keen to take Ampadu on-loan, but given that he wanted to fight for his place at Chelsea, the Championship club then pushed for Skipp’s signature.

Ampadu is a centre-back by trade, but during his club and international career, he has also played as a number six – Skipp can play the number six and number eight role.

Regardless of how this has panned out, Spurs and Skipp have benefited from this because it allows the Englishmen to add some much-needed experience and more value to his name.

Daniel Farke’s side, who finished bottom of the Premier League table, will be hoping for an instant return to the promised land and Skipp will now be a key player for them.

It could be argued that Ampadu would have perhaps have been a better option for Norwich because of his versatility, international experience and the fact that he has played abroad.

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signings

  1. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

    £15 million; Southampton

  2. Joe Hart

    Free

  3. Matt Doherty

    £13 million; Wolves

  4. Sergio Reguilon

    £25 million; Real Madrid

  5. Gareth Bale

    Loan; Real Madrid

  6. Carlos Vinicius

    Loan; Benfica

  7. Joe Rodon

    £12 million; Swansea

But that doesn’t hide the fact that Skipp has had his fair share of games in the Premier League and Champions League, mainly under Mauricio Pochettino where he was showing great potential.

It’s now a case of taking that to the next level because if he can make a name for himself in the second-tier then it will bode well for his long-term future.

Either way, it will be interesting to see who benefits from the above move because Ampadu isn’t guaranteed regular football under Frank Lampard, whilst Skipp will be a sure starter at Carrow Road.
