Joey Barton made just five league appearances for Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Joey Barton is ‘gutted’ that his move to Glasgow Rangers did not work out as expected.

Barton moved to Rangers from Burnley last summer, and he was expected to play a key role at Ibrox.

However, things did not go to plan for Barton at the Glasgow club – and it was announced yesterday evening that the 34-year-old’s contract had been terminated.

Barton is now free to seek a new club, with Burnley believed to be interested in re-signing the central midfielder.

Barton arrived at Rangers and promised that he would be the best player in Scotland, but he failed to show his best form for Mark Warburton’s side.

Barton played five times for Rangers in the league, but did not featured after September 10th – following a training ground argument with Andy Halliday.

Rangers had a series of meetings with Barton after his altercation with Halliday, but the two parties were never able to meet a compromise.

Rangers are now likely to be on the look out for a central midfielder in the January transfer window, as they look to replace Barton.
