Calum Chambers and Rob Holding are seen as ‘positive influences’ within the Arsenal dressing room, according to a report.
The Athletic report that the defensive duo are seen as ‘good characters’ at Arsenal, alongside popular left-back, Kieran Tierney.
Both haven’t exactly been regulars for Arsenal in recent seasons, both under Unai Emery and now Mikel Arteta.
But some Arsenal fans have rightly questioned whether they have made the progression since they joined the club from Southampton and Bolton, respectively, as highly-rated talents.
Towards the back end of the recently concluded campaign, Arteta used Chambers as a right-back, and whilst he produced strong performances, at times, he’s clearly not the player they should push for in that spot going forward.
It’s pretty clear with Cedric Soares failing to make an impact since his arrival last season, and Hector Bellerin declining in an Arsenal shirt, then it’s an area Arteta needs to look at this summer.
And whilst the Gunners are jam-packed in the centre-back department, some would also argue that both Chambers and Holding haven’t exactly established themselves as regulars in that area too.
David Luiz is set to depart the North London club when his contract expires this summer, and in truth, more of a clearout is needed after a disastrous campaign by the club.
Arsenal will head into the new 2021/22 season with no European football to look forward to for the first time in 25 years, and they simply cannot continue with the large bulk of the squad that they have because it’s those players who have put them in their current position.
