Rafa Benitez is ‘not yet on board’ with Everton possibly signing Philippe Coutinho, according to a report.
ESPN claim that there is an ‘internal debate’ inside Goodison Park about Everton signing the player Liverpool sold for £142 million (BBC Sport), with the owner, Farhad Moshiri, keen on the club trying to sign the Barcelona playmaker.
It has been suggested that Coutinho will be heading back to the Premier League this January, with several teams interested in signing the Brazil international.
Despite Coutinho once donning the colours of Liverpool, he may well be gracing the Goodison Park pitch if things start to push forward with the player and those on the blue half of Merseyside.
At the end of the day, it shouldn’t look odd because the man on Everton’s touchline is a Liverpool legend.
Whilst the Toffees need that creativity in the middle of the park, the minds of their fans might just explode at the thought of another ex-Red possibly joining them.
But given that it’s suggested that Benitez is yet to be convinced, then that probably indicates that nothing will happen.
At the end of the day, it should be the Spaniard who is making the final calls on who Everton should and shouldn’t sign during this January transfer window.
Everton, who weren’t able to spend that much in the summer because of FFP issues, have raced out of the blocks already this month and have added two new fullbacks to their ranks.
Nathan Patterson was the latest to arrive from Rangers, whilst Ukraine flyer, Vitaliy Mykolenko, was the first man through their doors.
