Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim has little interest in leaving Portugal for Leeds United or Leicester City, with Observador claiming he has agreed a new contract at the Primeira Liga leaders.

While there’s little to suggest Marcelo Bielsa and Brendan Rodgers are eyeing the exit, it makes sense for Leeds and Leicester to plan for every eventuality.

65-year-old Bielsa is out of contract at the end of this season while Rodgers has admirers at Tottenham Hotspur, according to The Telegraph.

And, should a worst-case scenario come to fruition, Noticias Ao Minuto reports Leeds and Leicester would waste little time in placing Amorim near the top of their wish list.

At the age of only 36, the former Portugal international may rival Julian Nagelsmann for the title of Europe’s most exciting young coach.

While it’s tempting to draw sobering comparisons with a fresh-faced Andre Villas-Boas, Amorim is just two months away from scribing his name into Portuguese football folklore.

Sporting Lisbon haven’t lifted the league title in 20 years but that long drought is about to come to an end. Sporting are nine points clear at the top of the table and, perhaps even more remarkably, haven’t lost a single one of their 21 games in 2020/21.

But, according to reports, Amorim will be sticking around to defend his title next term.

Observador claims the former Braga and Casa Pia coach has verbally agreed a new contract, one that would see him earn a substantial pay rise while increasing his £18 million release clause.

Furthermore, Amorim has no interest in leaving Sporting for anything other than a bonafide European superclub (CM Jornal).

With all due respect to Leeds and Leicester, they are no Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.
