According to Le Buteur, Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Real Betis colossus Aïssa Mandi.

A report from Spanish outlet La Razon claimed that the Reds are keen to sign the 29-year-old when his contract expires in the summer.

They said that Jürgen Klopp was interested in signing the 59-cap Algeria international before he brought Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak to Anfield in January.

La Razon also credited AC Milan with an interest in the defender.

Now, the big boost revealed by Le Buteur is that Mandi’s preferred destination is a move to the Premier League.

Should that be true, you would assume he’d reject AC Milan in favour of joining the Premier League champions.

Given how light Liverpool are at the back, this seems like a necessary signing for the Merseysiders to make.

However, in our view, it doesn’t feel like one Michael Edwards and Klopp would make unless they had no other option.

At 29, Mandi offers little resale value, and Liverpool would arguably be the last team to experience what’s left of his best years.

That’s why we’re sceptical, although if cash is tight this summer, the move could potentially materialise, in our view.
