It looks like a very exciting new era at Newcastle United has edged that bit closer to materialising.

The Premier League have taken over a month to greenlight the £300 million takeover of the St James’s Park club.

Saudi Public Investment Fund would owe 80 percent of Newcastle if the deal goes ahead, though the takeover has been delayed by allegations of broadcast piracy.

But according to The Chronicle, Saudi PIF, Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers are into the final straight.

The Chronicle has reported that the takeover attempt has made it through the latest round of the Premier League owners’ and directors’ test without ‘any hiccups’ and it’s now ‘in the final stages’.

If true, this will be music to Newcastle fans’ ears.

This isn’t the first time that they thought they’d seen the end of Mike Ashley’s controversial reign and although admittedly prior attempts to buy out the businessman haven’t come anywhere near this close, the delay has provoked a major sense of anxiety and fear in fans of the North-East club.

But with just one stage left in the ownership test, and no complications up until this point, it seems like the supporters can start getting the champagne bottles at the ready.
