James Tarkowski is set to stay at Burnley despite heavy speculation that the likes of West Ham United and Leicester City want to sign him, according to a report.
LancsLive have claimed that Burnley’s centre-back, who has not played this season, will not be moving anywhere ahead of Monday’s deadline.
It is said that the Clarets have priced him out of a move despite two bids from West Ham being rejected by the Lancashire club.
When Tarkowski made his England debut back in 2018, his manager Sean Dyche was full of praise for the rising star, and labelled him a ‘very good player’, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Therefore, it’s understandable why the 27-year-old has been attracting such interest because he has only grown as a defender and leader since then.
Nonetheless, West Ham will be more disappointed with this news because whilst they are still waiting for more defensive additions, it seems as though Leicester, who were also keen on Tarkowski, have made moves in other areas.
Biggest Premier League transfer deadline day deals in 2019
- Alex Iwobi
Arsenal to Everton: £34 million
- Ismaila Sarr
Rennes to Watford: £30 million
- Ryan Sessegnon
Fulham to Tottenham: £25 million
- Kieran Tierney
Celtic to Arsenal: £25 million
- Dennis Praet
Sampdoria to Leicester: £18 million
The Guardian have claimed that the Foxes have agreed a £36.5 million deal with St Etienne to sign Wesley Fofana – another player who was seemingly wanted by the Hammers.
All of this will only infuriate the West Ham supporters because they will ask why they aren’t securing such deals and where the money from the Grady Diangana sale has gone.
There’s not long left for the summer transfer window to slam shut and David Moyes, more than anything, needs more depth at the back, not just quality.
