Sevilla are reportedly set to ramp up their interest in Celtic’s Dedryck Boyata.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Sevilla are set to ramp up their interest in signing Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata this summer as questions linger over Nicolas Pareja’s future.
After three managers took charge of the club last season, Sevilla are seeking stability under Pablo Machin this season, though it has been another summer of upheaval.
Sergio Rico, Clement Lenglet, Steven N’Zonzi and Joaquin Correa have all moved on, with Sergi Gomez, Ibrahim Amadou, Aleix Vidal, Joris Gnagnon and Andre Silva among the players to arrive.
Whilst signing Gomez and Gnagnon has strengthened Machin’s back line, losing Lenglet to Barcelona was a huge blow – and another centre back appears to be on Sevilla’s radar, despite also having Simon Kjaer and Daniel Carrico, whilst Amadou can also fill in at the back.
AS report that Nicolas Pareja could move on before the end of the month, and Sevilla want to replace the 34-year-old with Celtic’s Dedryck Boyata, with Machin’s side allegedly set to ramp up their interest in him.
The former Manchester City man, 27, has been inconsistent since his 2015 move to Celtic, but an impressive World Cup with Belgium means clubs around Europe are keen to land him.
Boyata’s deal with Celtic expires in 2019, and with the Bhoys now out of the Champions League, Sevilla are ready to increase their efforts to sign the centre back, who was a target for Fulham.
Boyata has yet to return from the World Cup and missed Tuesday’s defeat to AEK Athens despite Brendan Rodgers suggesting that he is fit to play, and a move seems inevitable, especially with Sevilla now ready to push for a deal.
