According to L’Equipe, Sevilla have made a bid of up to £11.6million for Marseille winger Lucas Ocampos, who has been linked with a move to Everton.

Monchi has tied up a couple of smart signings since returning to Sevilla, bringing in defender Diego Carlos and midfielder Joan Jordan, but it’s now a winger on his radar.

Ocampos, 24, came up through the River Plate ranks, but has featured for Monaco, Marseille, Genoa and Milan in Europe, earning praise for his hard-working style.

Ocampos hit five goals and eight assists last season, and it’s now claimed that Sevilla have offered up to €13million (£11.6million) for the Argentinian winger in an effort to secure his signature.

Le10 Sport noted over the weekend that Everton are interested in Ocampos, but with Sevilla swooping in to make a first bid, the Toffees appear to be losing the race.

Really though, this doesn’t really feel like a big miss. Ocampos is decent, but if Everton are to bring in a new winger, it needs to be one with real quality to push Marco Silva’s side closer to the top six.

Ocampos doesn’t feel like that kind of player, and Marcel Brands should be aiming for a David Neres or a Cengiz Under rather than settling for a player like Ocampos, even if the price tag is appealing.

We’re not even convinced Everton are that interested in Ocampos, as he’s a right-footed, left-sided winger. Everton appear to be focusing on the opposite; a left-footed right-sided winger, so Ocampos may not even fit the bill.

Yes, the price is promising, but Everton should be aiming higher and for a left-footed winger given the huge number of right-footed wide men they have, so even with Sevilla bidding, Brands should look elsewhere.
